Georges Prêtre, who passed away in January 2017, was an internationally acclaimed opera and orchestra conductor. Among his many accomplishments, he conducted the premiere of Francis Poulenc’s opera La voix humaine at the Opéra-Comique in 1959. Throughout his long and celebrated career, Prêtre was the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, and Grand Officer of the French Légion d’Honneur.

Callas received her musical education in Athens. Initially, her mother tried to enroll her at the prestigious Athens Conservatoire , without success. At the audition, her voice, still untrained, failed to impress, while the conservatoire's director Filoktitis Oikonomidis  ( el ) refused to accept her without her satisfying the theoretic prerequisites ( solfege ). In the summer of 1937, her mother visited Maria Trivella at the younger Greek National Conservatoire , asking her to take Mary, as she was then called, as a student for a modest fee. In 1957, Trivella recalled her impression of "Mary, a very plump young girl, wearing big glasses for her myopia":

I think if I had not been at that performance , I may have never really discovered opera and fell in love with opera, and fell in love with Maria Callas.

is one of the symbols of Milan together with the Madonnina and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Built within ten years between 1358 and 1368 under Galeazzo II Visconti. The Castle was partly destroyed in 1447 because of a decision of the Ambrosia Republic, it was rebuilt during Francesco Sforza’s period. The Castle suffered many adversities until 1880 when the government wanted to destroy it. The good sense prevailed and the Castle was restored under Luca Beltrami’s direction. The entrance is situated under the tower of Filarete; on the back you find the Bona di Savoia’s tower and on the left side the Rocchetta, a fortified part inside the Castle useful to get refuge during war attacks. The Rocchetta has a three sides internal portico, and inside its rooms there is the famous Bramante ’s “Argus”. The Ducal Court was usually the residence of the lords. One of the rooms of Ducal Court, the “Sala delle Asse” is thought to have been frescoed by Leonardo da Vinci .
